Tuesday 13th July : Witness tells of Watson’s ‘inappropriate’ behaviour
The High Court in Wellington today heard testimonies of witnesses who had met Scott Watson on or around News Years Day, 1998.
Lynette Hall spoke of the afternoon leading up to the New Years celebrations, saying that Watson was known to one of the occupants of the boat she was on – and rowed over to them to share a drink. She said Watson’s behaviour became more and more inappropriate as the day progressed.
The last straw for Mrs Hall came when Watson requested to borrow her cigarette lighter using a phrase that offended her. She ignored the requests until it was repeated for the third time, at which point she replied – ‘My name is Lyn, you wanker.’ Justin Heron agreed to her request to not allow Watson’s original phrase to be published.
Watson was reported by Mrs Hall to have described his boat as a ketch, which she said had not meant anything to her at the time. A ketch has previously been reported to the jury to have two masts, whereas Scott Watson’s vessel is known to be one-masted.
